MISSION, VISION AND VALUES

Our Mission

Scottish Arab Federation (SAFe) is a grassroots, community based organisation that strives to strengthen the Scottish Arab community. Our mission is to promote the interests of Arab community in Scotland including organising, advocacy, education and social services, cultural outreach, leadership development, and forging relationships with other communities.

SAFe will work towards improving the quality of life for Scottish Arabs by facilitating the building our community’s capacity to be an active instrument for positive social change.  Will strive to work with members of our communities to encourage and empower them to participate in the political and civil society’s life of Scotland. SAFe will act as central resource to government, local authorities, the media, political leaders’ community groups, institutes and the voluntary sector.

Our vision

Our vision is for a strong Scottish Arab community, whose members have the power to decide about actions and policies that affect their lives; and have equitable access to a range of social, political, cultural, and economic opportunities in a context of equality of opportunity and social justice.

Our Values

SAFe believes that every individual in Scotland regardless of race, religion, age, gender, or sexuality, deserves the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge, and social and recreational interests, in a healthy and safe environment, and in a spirit of inclusiveness, diversity, and cooperation.

Our Core Values are: Caring, Open minded, Tolerant, Committed, and Inclusive.

SAFe Aims & Objectives

  • The promotion of racial harmony, equality and diversity through the promotion of, and by encouraging participation in, integration and orientation activities for Arabic and host communities in Scotland.

  • Providing an organised voice with which to articulate Arab concerns and interests.

  • Building the profile and extending influence; make known the views of the Arab communities and individuals within Scotland on a variety of subjects through the democratic channels available such as governmental and non-governmental agencies and the media.

  • Join in the general debate about policies which affect all communities in Scotland on issues such as Health, education, jobs, poverty - so that the Arab community is seen as part of, not something different from, the rest of Scotland.

SAFe will endeavour to:

  • Establishing a forum for Scottish Arab communities to promote integration and issues which are of wide concern to the community. Develop, promote and provide education and awareness programmes and activities on the Arab culture, language and society for organisations and communities in Scotland.

  • Develop effective links with and provide assistance to Scottish Government, education establishments, health care organisations, police, social work departments and other organisations to increase the availability of employment training and volunteering opportunities.

  • Address the difficulties faced by Arabs within Scotland in matters such as unemployment and racial discrimination and represent them on these matters both independently and in collaboration with other ethnic groups.

  • To create awareness of the presence in Scotland of Scottish Arabs and of their contribution to the social, professional and academic aspects of the society they form part of.

  • To encourage and advance the active participation of Scottish Arabs in all aspects of the Scottish way of life  including social, cultural and civil matters ensuring the effective fulfilment of their duties and the understanding of their rights.
